To all the speakers 🙂
Life is full of choices. I believe we make better decisions when we know better.
So, here we have two options in the picture. In which room would you give your speech? By asking this question and looking at these photos, I can tell you are already envisioning yourself in one of them. Your emotions are engaged, and your senses are naturally drawn to one of the images.
When I assisted at a conference, I spoke to speaker Sergei Pištšev from the Estonian Police and Border Guard. He told me that whenever possible, he likes to see the room beforehand and have a say in where he delivers his speech. After all, everything around us is directly associated with how much and how well we receive information. Every aspect of a room influences our senses. A warm and cozy atmosphere with right colours and materials, is known for making people comfortable and open to receiving and interacting more.
The right lighting and scents can enhance your message or the aim of your speech, yet they are often overlooked. These elements can make a significant difference. It’s not just about whether the screen is working or if the microphone is on; it’s about making people want to listen to you by positively and intentionally impacting their senses. If the organiser or designer isn’t proposing options, it’s up to you, dear speakers, to demand them. After all, you are the ones everyone is coming to listen to; make it count.
So, you decide! Which room do you want to give your speech in?
